Going Outside When It’s Too Hot To Go Outside

Somedays we just need to get out of the house. A breath of fresh air, a little sunshine and a little break from the same old things. But nobody really wants to crawl on hot pavement or run around when it’s 95 degrees out! Mostly we whine… so what do we do then??

Time to bust out the water table!

We’ve got a great table for this purpose that was my sons first birthday present – Step2 Rain Showers Splash Pond Water Table Playset (if they can hold on and stand they love it!). It also serves as our sensory table during the winter months filled with fake leaves to rake in the fall, bells and bows and squeaky ornaments at Xmas but by the summer we fill it with beach and bath toys and lug it outside for some water fun. On REALLY hot days we add a little fun and cool with a bag of ice which is just another layer of play for them.

Don’t feel like you need to buy anything pricey for this though – just a large Tupperware or even a small plastic bin will do (my personal fav are those under the bed storage ones) filled with water and a couple of plastic cups or spoons will do the trick all the same.

Sometimes if I’m planning ahead I will even freeze big blocks of ice filled with treats like blueberries or small toys to discover as it melts. The kids have a blast raking or shoveling at it to dig out their fun.
