Seasons: Day One

So with the change of seasons and Fall approaching I thought it would be the perfect time to start teaching my little ones about the seasons. At this point especially with my “younger” two I’m pretty sure the only season they remember right now is Summer – so first we had to learn what the seasons are and what their names are. We started at the Library and got a book for each season so we could start seeing and talking about what each one was.

All Four

Then since we are just beginning to enter leaf peeping season in New England we took a nature walk to see what we could find!

We headed out to Walden Pond (Thoreau’s pond for all of you remembering your American history/literature). They had a really cute little hike set up for the kids with tons of signs full of art and history on Thoreau’s life and work throughout all the different seasons. It aligned so perfectly with our theme week and the kids just loved checking out all the wildlife and nature they could find along the path – we pointed out birds, felt bark on the trees, watched chipmunks chase each other, looked at pinecones they were just fascinated by all of it.

This week we are going to spend time focusing on each of the different seasons – one each day exploring them in a number of different ways and will share all of our activities for you to try at home too!
