Hungry Caterpillar: Day Two

Sometimes things just don’t go over as well as you think they will! Even though today was slightly less hectic than yesterday we’ve been having a tougher time. One of the babes woke up on the wrong side of the bed and if one is off it tends to set them all off a bit. Trying to remember my patience this morning and instead of our usual reminders about whose turn it is next for a diaper change or to get cleaned up from lunch I spent some extra time giving everybody hugs. Most behavioralists will tell you that bad behavior from a toddler is all about getting attention and while we haven’t hit the “bad behaviors” yet – I’m starting to see the beginnings of those famous toddler temper tantrums and think we were all in need of a little extra attention from Mom today.  While the crying can certainly be a lot sometimes – I think some of the stories we heard training to be foster parents about kids being hurt by parents who couldn’t take it anymore or just wanted them to go to sleep gives me a lot of extra patience. Somehow it reminds me that they just need love and that no matter why or how long they are crying I will always love them more than I need it to stop. You just kind of have to roll with it knowing there will be good days and bad. Or as I learned when I had my nursing newborn and nine month old: laugh and sing to keep from crying because there is literally nothing you can do sometimes.

For today though, a little change of scenery helped them rally just long enough to try one of our Very Hungry Caterpillar activities but I guess the rest will have to wait and see how we are doing after nap. There’s always tomorrow after all!

I had really thought this would be more of a hit since we love fruit so much but it only held their attention for a couple minutes and we lost a few bites of crayon in the process :/  It’s the first time I’ve given them anything besides a blank piece of paper to color on and apparently we were not impressed.

It’s so funny how sometimes you think something will be great and they are just not into it, while other times you can’t believe they are still playing with something you never imagined would hold their attention! {Hi, have you met stick?} That’s part of the reason I like to try so many different things with the babies – you never know where their interests will lie and they can be sooo different from each other day to day.  If you have something that you thought would be total boredom and ended up keeping them entertained I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!

And if you just joined our theme week here be sure to go back and check it out from the beginning!
