Cooking at 1 & 1/2 – Crackers!

I’m always trying to think of fun, creative and different things I can do with my kids (if only so I don’t kill myself when I hear the dinosuar song one more time). But finding something that’s quick, easy enough for my not quite 2 year old and won’t take me the rest of the day to clean up can be tough.

My son and I get our special time during his sisters morning nap so we always try to do something fun –  just us. Although some days it’s definitely laundry. Usually it’s coloring because I’m just not that creative, but today I decided there’s only so much coloring and stickers (usually eating crayons) we can do.

This activity came as a stroke of genius as he begged for those 9:30 am crackers! Parmesan crisps! A quick easy cooking project he could handle.

Wash hands, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and let him make piles with Parmesan Cheese.

Sure there was some dumping and putting it back in the container (as well as some nibbling) but he had a great time forming crackers and “cooking all by himself.” I popped it in the oven (350ish) and he pushed the start button for the timer (wow buttons!). We had some quality time checking on them “I see it, I see it” and waiting about 10 minutes which we all know at 1 & 1/2 is about as long as we can possibly wait. Once they were done I easily peeled them off, onto his plate and he enjoyed a snack he had cooked himself! Even mommy had a couple.

In his own words they were “perfect!”
