Felt Snowman

To make things easier I’ve included links to some of the supplies we’ve used for our project. While not endorsed by these companies I may receive a payment if you make a qualifying purchase through my affiliate links. These help me keep the blog up and running at no extra cost to you. Many of these items may already be in your home or can also be found at your neighborhood stores as well.

If you followed along with our Halloween activities you already know I love a good felt song board, but there are so many other fun things you can do with felt too! Considering I ordered about 5 of these we’re going to have lots of felt projects coming up!

This week we did a little story play with one of our Christmas books which was a hit on so many different levels for my kids. The book is The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s Christmas 123 – it’s a counting book (great pre-math skills) full of our favorite character from The Very Hungry Caterpillar (if you didn’t catch that theme week check it out here), but also all his wintery/christmas friends!

Our current favorite is the snowman page where “HI FROSTY!” is excitedly exclaimed each and every read to each and every snowman. So I decided to start our story play here – along with our sticker and dress up love, I wanted something they could create over and over again and change up as they pleased. I cut out a big piece of felt to be the snowman using the shape of the snowmen from the book and then cut out black circles for his eyes, mouth and buttons. I also made him a little carrot nose, hat and scarf so they could change and decorate him which kept them very entertained! I even gave him a little broomstick – although I’ll be the first to admit I put very little effort into that one and it could’ve been much better if I’d added some different color browns or even just cut some slits for the broom. Mix it up and give him some different clothes or different shapes if you like too – this was just a quick project I created as they began waking up from nap, but you could do so much more with it if you wanted!

I love that this is a craft they can do themselves whenever/wherever they’d like. No glue required – the felt pieces just stick to each other as soon as they push them down. It’s great for little hands and great practice for stickers too! They’ve had a blast designing him lots of different ways!
